You know how some corners in New York just feel like they’ve seen it all? That’s 190 Bowery for me. That building has been sitting on that corner forever, a silent witness to the city constantly changing around it. I wanted to capture that feeling—how it stands so still while the rest of the world rushes by.
The light that afternoon was perfect, cutting across the street and making all the shadows pop. It was one of those moments where everything just falls into place. A cyclist blurred past, cars lined up for the light, and people moved along the sidewalk, each in their own world but sharing this one spot for a split second.
Really, the photo isn't about any one person. The main character is the street itself. The people are what bring it to life—they're the energy—but the building is the stage that’s been there for generations. When I took the picture, I was just trying to catch that vibe: the fast, fleeting energy of the city against this backdrop that feels like it will be there forever. It's a snapshot of the city's pulse.
